For Pilates

It is advisable to have a one to one session before you begin a Pilates course so that I can assess you and decide the best class for you. I will then know you and your body well enough to help you get more out of your classes. My clients often decide to continue with one-to-one sessions while they attend group classes; sometimes they prefer to continue alone. You can do this however you wish either weekly, monthly or as and when suits you. I will give you a list of exercises to carry on with while you are at home so you can continue your Pilates practice in between one-to-ones or classes.

For Yoga

You can take a one-to-one class to understand and deepen the poses with full attention to personal adjustments.

This challenging class is taught in a soothing and light hearted way. We aim to learn the Ashtanga Primary series, Vinyasa, and Pranayama with modifications and progressions for any individual needs. It is a flowing sequence of set poses that include standing, seated, lying and inversions that build strength and flexibility in the body and the mind. The more you practice, the more you’ll improve, and the more you improve the more you’ll enjoy. We all have to start somewhere, so special attention is paid to beginners, who are given a simplified set of movement options to get them up and running. Props are provided for whoever needs them.

A course of classes that help relieve stress and anxiety in busy people that need to unwind, and practice mindfulness for those who want to deepen their Yoga practice.

This course starts with breathing techniques to focus and calm the mind and cleanse and detoxify the body. A mindfulness meditation follows breathing techniques that have calmed and focused the mind. Meditation is an exploration of the space between your thoughts, and a chance to practice in the moment. Meditation helps control the daily thoughts that rush through the head in a way that helps bring calmness and increased efficiency into everyday life.

Restorative yoga is all about an opening up that helps release pent up emotions and physical pain while relaxing the body and mind. Specific poses supported by props are held for 5 – 20 mins depending on the person and the pose. This novel approach helps trigger mind and body release by tapping into the peripheral nervous system that helps rest, digest and heal us.

The Matwork classes are designed to learn Pilates principles by basic movements and breathing patterns that strengthen the body, increase flexibility and mobilise joints. The aim is to improve core strength, endurance and control. Exercises are selected that challenge mobility and stabilisation through movements that add flexibility and suppleness to the body. Regular matwork practice will improve your posture, body strength and energy levels.

It works best to get in touch and complete an exploratory one-to-one session first, but classes are structured to accommodate walk-in beginners who will be given homework to help them get up to speed quickly. This will build on the basic core strengthening exercises that prepare beginners for intermediate exercises. In all classes modifications and progressions are given out individually when required.

There is a Men only class! Pilates was created by Joseph Pilates, a German fitness instructor, boxer and self defence coach. Many professional sportsmen use Pilates in their routine to build overall strength, increase flexibility and core strength as well as improve posture, help recovery from injury or lower back pain, and improve energy levels. Whatever your background, if you’re new to Pilates it makes sense to take an exploratory one-to-one private class before joining the group classes.

If you are keen to join a Pilates group class, first consider booking an exploratory one-to-one session that teaches the basics in a personal fitness assessment format. Please get in touch for more details.
